I’ve never been a big fan of Rosie O’Donnell (remember her on VH-1?) and Boy George has been a tad passé for longer than a minute. But I have to admit that I am completely buying into the hype machine for their production of Taboo.

I was one of those kids who wore a black trench coat, combat boots and immersed myself in Britpop. So, despite the O’Dowd/O’Donnell connection, the chance to see a musical revolving around 80’s London and Leigh Bowery is fascinating. Well, if they don’t fuck it up. And considering Boy George and Rosie’s investment, I don’t think they will.

I’ve always been interested in those who have the balls — or lack enough common sense — to push limits. Leigh pushed really hard (if you saw Wigstock - The Movie you caught a conservative glimpse of his “style”) and I’m curious how that plays out on stage. ‘Cause some personalities, like Grace Jones, Nina Hagen and Björk, have to be experienced firsthand.

But Leigh is no longer amongst the living so I need to devise a plan to see this musical. I know somebody — although I’m not quite sure who — is making money. Can one of you money moguls buy me two first class seats from Atlanta to New York, orchestra seats to Taboo, a weekend’s accommodations at the W and some shopping money (I like round figures - how about $1000)? I mean like, damn.

I promise to be really, really grateful and stuff.

There’s something about Rosie O’Donnell that scares the hell out of me. She always looks like she’s about to do battle.

But… Chris O’Donnell totally rocks!!

the W in times square is fabu…the rooms are to die for…at least that is what i had heard and stuff.

i too would like to see this production, but i’ll probably buy discount tix. alvin ailey season is upon us and i’ll need to see that at least a few times this year to get in all the performances i love…(revelations, vespers, & cry)

As a regular theatre-goer, NEVER pay full price, if at all possible. They have been promoting this show via email for months now and giving lots of discounts for previews. That opportunity may be lost as they open, but it’s always worth nosing around.

I hope it does well, but it’s not buzzing that way. I’ve got a pal who has put a lot of his own cash into it, so fingers are crossed. I know some people who l-o-v-e-d the UK production. Hopefully they won’t screw up the US one too much with the Americanization.

They just brought in a new choreographer this week to do some doctoring — a
little late in the game as previews start in 2 days.

It’ll last for awhile, but I don’t think it’s gonna be a big hit. Come up and see it while you can — I’m pretty sure I ‘ve got access to discounts while it’s in previews)>

1 more thing — it’s way too Rosiefied (her name is on the site’s splash page 3 times … enough already).

Boy has become extremely adept at making serious cake over the last decade - the production might suck - but he’s gonna be in new hats fa dayz.
