Random 10: The Homework Sucks Edition

Two memes for the price of one

by j. brotherlove

These are the types of memes I like most; quick and easy. Part I is an ongoing theme. I first got a whiff of Part II from George via Tish.

Part I: Random 10

  1. “Le Freak” by Chic
  2. “Teardrop” by Massive Attack
  3. “Missing” by Everything But The Girl
  4. “You’re Not Alone” by Olive
  5. “Talk To Me” by Wild Orchid
  6. “For Aaliyah” by Cam
  7. “Manners & Physique” by Adam Ant
  8. “No One Can Love You More” by Phyllis Hyman
  9. “Is It True” by Glenn Lewis
  10. “Everybody Watching” by Kabelo

Part II: 5 Questions

1. What is the total amount of music files on your computer?
3061 @ 13.58 GB. This represents less than 10% of the music I own. I still listen to CDs more than anything else. So I’m late to the ripping game. I’m buying a bigger hard drive this week to hold everything. There’s no rush; I have direct access to Apollo.

2. The last CD you bought is:
I’m old school and just purchased my first digital album today, ABC’s Lexicon Of Love, through MusicMatch. I still feel weird about paying for a “CD” I don’t physically own.

3. What is the song you last listened to before this message?
“Muse 2 the Pharaoh” by Prince.

4. Write down five songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.
Okay, this is tricky. I’ll be safe and choose “I Want You” by Marvin Gaye, “Shades Of Scarlett Conquering” by Joni Mitchell, “Everybody Here Wants You” by Lewis Taylor, “Friendly Fire” by Shara Nelson, and
“What About This Love?” by Mr. Fingers/Larry Heard. Apparently, I have an affinity for melancholy love songs.

5. Who are you gonna pass this stick to (three persons and why)?
No one. I’ve been stuck in the 1800s all weekend. All the cooler people already did this.

I didn’t know Lewis Taylor did “Everybody Here Wants You”!

I thought I heard Prince mention “Shades” as one of the reasons he dug Mitchell’s “The Hissing of Summer Lawns.”

“Everybody Here Wants You” is an absolutely wonderful song too. That and his version of “Electric Ladyland”, George, is awesome. In fact, I think I’ll put Lewis Taylor on the iPod.

Joni Mitchell…hmmm…it’s not on Apollo…
