I’ve often criticized V-103 about its programming and further on morning host Frank Ski’s shameless self-promotion. However, this morning, I’d be less-than-sincere if I didn’t commend the Frank Ski Morning Show for organizing and broadcasting a discussion on “Being Black and Gay in America”. The panel consisted of black men and women (including, one trans) who spoke openly and intelligently about their “blackness” and “gayness”.
I will go further and mention that the Frank Ski Morning Show’s regular acknowledgment and support of Atlanta’s gay, black community is well-documented (including hosting nights at black, gay clubs) and is one of the elements that drew me to appreciate the show.
The discussion, while a brief two hours, touched on self-hatred, substance abuse, the DL “trend” (read the words of Lynne, Donald and Steven), and religion. Frank Ski, Wanda Smith and Big Chuck asked thoughtful questions and facilitated some emotional and humorous moments. Frank Ski further delivered a positive message by inviting Reverend Antonio Jones (a single, gay black minister) to deliver the show’s closing “inspirational vitamin”. There will be some angry emails about that, I assure you.
Again, I would like to thank V-103, the Frank Ski Morning Show, and most of all, my black, non-heterosexual brothers and sisters who served on this morning’s panel for starting my weekend off on a great note (If you didn’t know Thursday is the start of the weekend, you need to get out of the house more often). And although it is only Thursday, and I am sensing a life-changing weekend.
Now, if we can only do something about that music programming… Speaking of programming, I could make an insightful comment on the choice for the show’s closing song (“Thank You” by BeBe Winans). But, I’ll resist it. Won’t go there. Nope. Un-uh. *whistling*

Boy, things sure have changed since I left ATL. I wonder if this is archived on the V-103 website? I’d love to hear this discussion.
That would be great, wouldn’t it? Unfortunately, the V103 site is so whickity whack, you can barely find basic information.
