Every year, Music Midtown’s outside festival hits and I’m presented with choosing between a cornucopia of mildly stimulating artists (akin to choosing between re-runs of Gimme A Break and Diff’rent Strokes). And then there are all of the rules: no (real) cameras, no outside food, no roller skates, no pets, no “oversized” backpacks – no, no, no… I may have to break up that sexist rule and carry a “purse” or “handbag” to keep up with my things.
Anyway, every year, I pass on Music Midtown which is sad. I love music so the odds are in favor of me discovering new music and enjoying myself. But for $40, I want a guarantee, dammit!
This year is a little better. Amongst the popular (Bonnie Raitt, No Doubt, Ja Rule) and played out (David Lee Roth, Stone Temple Pilots, Bone Thugs N’ Harmony), I am curious to see Darius Rucker, Res, Cee-Lo, Tony Rich (he’s taking on a new direction), Albita and the eleven50 DJ’s. Res and Cee-Lo are Friday night so I would have to leave Gig #2 early (drama). I’ll have to make something happen because, if I don’t see them, I can skip the entire thing.
Yes…by hook or by crook you must see Cee-Lo and Res and report back.
Cee-lo is going on tour with Musiq this summer. That’s going to be a hot show. Rumor has it that after spending last summer on Miss Badu’s tour that Musiq has developed a much better stage show and stage presence.
but now i’m on my own musical rant.
I need to go listen to ‘freak’
You’re right. I have to make it. But if I don’t skip tonight’s Soulive/N’dambi concert or Lazy Dog tomorrow night at eleven50, I’ll be a zombie by Friday afternoon. Decisions, decisions… When it rains it pours!
