Jamiroquai - A Funk Odyssey
Not so funky after allby j. brotherlove
Okay, I’ll admit it. I hesitated buying Jamiroquai’s latest CD. One reason is because it took me a while to get into their last one. It had some great hits on it but something wasn’t quite right.
Well, something isn’t quite right with A Funk Odyssey, either. But, when the funkiest tunes on the radio are sung my Britney, desperate times demand desperate measure.
To be fair, there’s some really good stuff on the disc ("Feel So Good", "You Give Me Something", "Main Vein"). But there’s some bad stuff, too.
Ironically, it could be said that Jamiroquai are in a funk. Their songs have become increasingly formulaic and less inspired since The Return Of The Space Cowboy. But, nobody’s perfect. This collection is a lateral move, at best. But a must for modern dance music junkies sick of techno treble and in need of a funky bass fix.
For better funk/house results you should try Ultra Naté’s last two CD’s, Stranger Than Fiction and Situation Critical.
