Yeah, yeah…I know all about the hype surrounding Hedwig and The Angry Inch. I’ll admit, it sounded interesting. But, I hesitated seeing this film because I thought it might be too queer and kitschy.

Don’t get me wrong, I like queer and kitschy - but the mix has to be just right (not too pretentious or goofy) or I feel manipulated. However, I’m delighted to report that as writer, director and star of Hedwig, John Cameron Mitchell showcases extroadinary range. My wig goes off to him.

I convinced the rest of DIC to watch my Netflix copy with me and we had a great time with it (EJ, of course, fell asleep).

I’m sure it’s only a matter of time for Hedwig to replace that other kitschy trannie rock film of choice.

Has anyone else noticed that Hedwig looks an awful lot like Rachel Griffiths from Six Feet Under?

Just saying.

Whee! I so loved Hedwig and the Angry Inch, but then I kind of have a thing for films with gender-blending slim-hipped boys in eyeliner (cf: Velvet Goldmine).
