Beyonce Bounces Back

Permission from God to strip on stage

by j. brotherlove

As if the Britney/Madonna collabo “Me Against The Music” didn’t suck enough ass, there’s another reference to female kissing in the video. Please stop the madness, Mo! Beyonc already told you she ain’t having it. Or did she?

While I don’t doubt that several of Beyonce’s “standards” are in conflict with mine, I was suspicious when I read the quotes from her October 15th Sun interview circulating through the media. There was not context in her quotes. Reading carefully (I cannot find the original Sun interview — George?), I just wasn’t convinced I should be outraged by what Beyonce reportedly said in the paper:

“I have standards. There are things I will not do.” […] “I knew it was going to happen from rehearsals, but it was still a shock when they did it.”

And then there’s this craziness in response to her being nearly naked in her performances:

“I have permission from God to strip on stage - but not to share a lesbian kiss. I honestly believe, He wants people to celebrate their bodies. As long as, you don’t compromise your Christianity in the process.”

What I did take from the quotes was a hint of criticism of the Britney/Madonna kiss as a “publicity stunt”. But then, that’s an attitude I hold so I could’ve colored the content. Don’t get me wrong; love Madonna, like Britney, hate the kiss. Because… what was that about? Neither one of them are gay. And how “shocking” is it for Madonna to kiss anybody? But if we’re starting a trend, and the gods know we need something interesting to happen in popular music, can we get Redman and Method Man to swap some slob onstage? That would be shocking. And hot.

I digress. Whether or not Beyonce actually criticized homosexuality she (or her publicist) are doing a great job bouncing back from the damage. She’s been quoted from her website:

“I have never judged anyone based on his or her sexual orientation and have no intention of starting now,” Beyonce said. “I have a lot of gay and lesbian fans, and I love them no differently than my straight fans.”

Well, kudos for her, and I’m not even a fan. Maybe I’ll give her lackluster CD a spin today. It can’t be that bad.

hmm… i don’t know.. the whole “they took my words out of context” thing seems to be the standard excuse these days for any celebrity trying to cover their asses.. err, i mean clarify something they said. but, even if i do give her the benefit of the doubt (and i’m not sure i do) her statement about god being ok with her stripping on stage thing is enough to make me gag.
i never really cared for her anyway, so no losses here. but it does amaze me some of the shit that comes out of peoples’ mouths.
ps.. i’m with you on the madonna/britney hing.. i didn’t see the point.. aside from the shock value. ok, so maybe that was the point.. eh? whatev.

I meant to make a bigger issue of that part of the quote, deshigrrrl. God gives her permission to strip?

*dead*

I understand your doubt. I have some too. But I also know interviewers will print some shit in a minute that they either don’t research or just plain make up to sell papers or drive Intervet traffic. That’s why I prefer to get my info as close to first-hand as possible.

Oh geez, people will just drop God’s name on a dime. And how YOU gonna say what God is comfortable with? How convenient.

Anyway, re: Red and Meth. Yes, lawd, I wish they would relax so one could slip the other the tongue. I know they can’t find the closet door without a flashlight, but really boys, come on now.
