Today is the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As a young African-American (aka, Black kid), I was certainly taught the general accomplishments of Dr. King in school.
But, I gained new appreciation for his philosophies after listening to widow Coretta Scott King, this year. I’m especially impressed by Dr. King’s ability to stay focused on ultimate humanitarian efforts (which included accepting all races, religious practices, etc.) and remain a Christian. I don’t see a lot of tolerance from the local Christians I encounter.
Of course, Dr. King’s words and actions were influence by Ghandi (as were Malcom X’s latter words and actions). It’s interesting how I often come back to Ghandi in my nascent research of social change. I must read more about him.
I understand how some people find nonviolence a weak concept. But, the Six Principles of Nonviolence ain’t no walk in the park.
And The Six Steps For Nonviolent Social Change is my preferred method of resolving personal conflicts for a few years. These steps, in fact, helped me dissolve my relationship with Ex Lover.
But, don’t take my word for it; research it for yourself.
