Sometimes, I just have to do things on my own…
Last night, I bounced through eleven50 for Ken Batie’s birthday party. Very cute event at my new favorite club of the moment. I’m too lazy to do a real review so check out the layout here. In fact, with Tangier, Martini Club, Cosmopolitan and Leopard Lounge all within a block of each other, all of Crescent Avenue is off the chain on Thursday night.
I called Wood to see if he would join me because he is one of the few people I know in Atlanta who’s unafraid to party “outside-of the-box”. However, he was acting distracted, secretive and giddy which got on my nerves because it seemed trivial to me.
I almost let that ruin my mood and just drive home. I am not as confidant or self-contained as Nix (who can attend any event alone). I am reserved and don’t normally approach people I don’t know so it’s best that I bring along someone for interaction. But, I am slowly getting accostomed to doing things with myself. And it’s a good thing.
The legendary Roy Ayers and Kathleen Bertrand performed a good set on the main stage while Jamal Ahmad and DJ Kemit (my favorite Atlanta DJ’s) spun the tunes in different rooms and the patio. Lots of beautiful people who enjoy real music.
Speaking of real music… If you’re a fan of true soul, deep house, and progressive dance sounds, eleven50 is holding it down like a motherfucker in the upcoming weeks with: the Naked Music Tour (4/25), Lazy Dog (5/2) and Mark Farina (5/3).
Afterwards, I ran through Bulldogs to holler at Superstar Bartender Lenny which is a good thing as he’s headed for Amsterdam, next week. [Remind me to post Dan’s About Face episode for reference]. But, after leaving a splashy environment like eleven50, Bulldog’s seemed like two steps back so I left after one drink.
Okay, so Wood just called to tell me he was hanging with John Singleton and his flambouyant assistant, Jamaica (as seen on BET’s Oh Drama!) when I called him, last night.
He didn’t tell me because he didn’t want to name drop. If you’re wondering why he didn’t just excuse himself or tell me he was having dinner and drinks with some out of town friends, then join the club.
