For the better part of the past two weeks, I have been nursing mastitis, a breast infection, most common in nursing women and cows. Naturally, I would try to skew the stats. The infection entered through my left (unpierced) nipple and I am uncertain of how the skin was broken or the infection occurred. The possibilities: 1] Having it bitten during sex (unlikely), 2] Accidentally cutting it with my dirty electric razor (don’t ask) or, 3] The result of an spider bite.

Whatever the case, the condition has progressed into a serious breast abscess (because I didn’t know what was happening, initially) which has involved several doctors, tubes of blood, three medications, a mammogram and will probably end with a minor surgical procedure, since nothing else is working. That’s right. What began as an irritating itch can now be classified as stinging, stabbing breast pains (please sympathize with a man’s evolution to refer to anything on his body as “breasts”), will now result in another scar on my body.

I’ve been off work so far this week, downing antibiotics and pain pills until my appointment with the surgeon. During this time I have been drifting in and out of sleep and watching movies I have seen countless times (Bruno, Hysterical Blindness, and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension, because I can’t focus long enough on anything else.

I will attempt to go to the gig, tomorrow. We’ll see what happens.

Dang J — I’m sorry to hear about your left breast pec breast being in pain [grabs a hold of my nipple ring] — I’m curious to know how you came down with mastitis … I’ll keep you in my prayers.

As I was when you told me earlier, I am speachless. I can’t imagine what you must be going through and being the “I’ll fix it” kinda of person, I feel so lost and helpless.

Relax and drink lots of water is all I can suggest :(

J, I am so sorry this is happening.

This nursing mother says ow, ow, ow.

And thank you for writing about what is happening to you.

Take care of yourself.

Sending healing thoughts.

I would hate a scar on that fine nubian, bodacious, caramella body of yours. ruining that perfect complexion.

You not gon’ die. I know that.

WAIT!

does loverboy(ex-lover) know bout this?

You gon’ tell him?

Who payin for the bill? you or the insurance company?

Lord, I’m nosy. But i wanna know.

Thank you for your concern, everyone. My flair for drama, aside, this is not a life/death situation (although, my first dr. gave me a male breast cancer speech!)

Lloyd, remind me where you live/go to school, so I can fly/drive there, meet you in person and smack you in the back of your bald-ass head.

*grin*

Of course, Loverboy knows. He’s been a great comfort. And yes, I have insurance. Though, these co-pays are starting to add up!

Anything else buzzing through your mind? If so, email or IM, por favor.

Oh hell naw, its so much mo’ fun in here. Besides, I ain’t all day to Im or none of that, but I got time to surf around. You knoww!

I’m sorry to hear about your condition future thief :). I’m glad you want to take, it NOW, FINALLY gives me an excuse to take your symbol idea you use for comments :) thank you lol

Seriously, back to your state, I had a friend that had that. She got it shortly after her nipple piercing. If you want more info on it go to my comment section and email her. I don’t remember if she had surgery or not. Nonetheless she is a pure sweety and could lessen your fears.
