BQM called about 10:30 this morning to give me an update on his pending dates. The bottom line: I was left without a vehicle because one of the guys scooped him up. No problem. I caught the bus to Hyde Park to meet Duane at Dr. Wax.

Walking through Hyde Park brought back lots of great memories. If I moved back to Chicago, Hyde Park is probably the only neighborhood I could live in on the south side. Duane is his same irreverent self (with some extra poundage). After our hug, we went into music information overdrive and I ended up with two bags of CD’s:

Beautiful Space 4*
Beautiful Space 5*
Environmentally Sound 3*

Hefner - Residue
Midnight Mirage 4*
Peven Everett - Speed Of Light
Peven Everett - Feelin’ Blue (Single)
Nuspirit Helsinki - Nuspirit Helsinki
Sandra St. Victor - Gemini: Both Sides

After that spree, we walked over to the health food emporium to see another member of our former clique, Hayley. She took a break from the counter to hug and compliment me. Duane called Tamé (another former cliquette) on his cell so I could speak with her, too. She’s in New York, working on a line of beauty products.

For lunch, we ate a stuffed pepperoni and sausage pizza at Giordano’s. Then Duane’s boyfriend (a cutie pie) picked us up and took us to Dusty Groove for more music shopping. I saw a lot I wanted but settled on Beady Belle’s CD, Home.

I met a friend of mine named Eric and we caught up on a few years of drama at his house on the West side of Chicago, which is going through a massive gentrification. He dropped me off at home and I now I’m getting ready for the Prop House which I feel apprehensive about. The Prop House is a straight club which a group of guys rent on Friday nights for the gay crowd (never the best situation, in my opinion). However, considering they’ve been doing this for years and charging $8-$10 a person in the process Chicago should have a black gay club that is open every night (I’m excusing places like Club Escape which are really just lounges).

Anyway…. I’ll try to stay positive. I just want to see people who I otherwise wouldn’t.

Hi all. I’m a student at the University of Chicago. I am also from Chicago…grew up on the South Side in South Shore. I am currently working on a documentary about gentrification in Hyde Park. Is anyone interested in getting some screen time? I’d really like to schedule something. Holla at me ASAP.
