And Sometimes Blue

Ah… the weekend is nearly upon me and how is this week different from the last? *sigh* I can’t say that it is. I’ve already forgotten any lessons I have learned. To make matters worse, this is the second full week I have been without my mobile phone (I dropped it in the toilet) and desktop computer (lightening make it go boom). What’s a techno bruh to do?
And I’m Not. Interested. In. Sex.
Doesn’t mean I don’t imbibe. Just not interested, is all. I am trying to occupy myself by editing the resume for XL (formerly Ex Lover) and planning the annual Labor Day party at DIC. The latter will be demanding as, I feel, the guest list will be off the %*$!@;%?&* chain (even with mandatory RSVP). I’ll have to pop plenty of vitamins. It’s been awhile since we’ve had a blowout and it can take a toll on the personality. I’m also finishing my binge week so I can concentrate on tightening the bod for the event.
Hopefully, that will keep the blahs at bay. That, and music. Gots to have music…
Addendum…
I’m feeling a bit lazy, but here’s a quick synopsis (pay attention, this’ll go fast). Most of these selections are jazz-infused so, keep that in mind. I’ll skip Jazzanova, Verve/Remixed and Koop, since there have been several posts about these CDs.
In Heavy Rotation
- Jazzanova - in between
- Beady Belle - Home
If you blend jazz, and house with clever arrangements, obtuse lyrics and Swing Out Sister, you’d get Beady Belle. - Nuspirit Helsinki - Nuspirit Helsinki
Very jazzy soul, smooth and reminiscent of Naked Music NYC’s What’s On Your Mind?. Damn fine and highly recommended. - Hefner - Residue
Hefner blends lounge and trip hop elements for a laid back, but not boring, vibe. The vocal tracks remind me of Monday Michiru (who has a new CD, herself). - Ledisi - Feeling Orange and Sometimes Blue
Ledisi is one of the best “nu soul” songstresses out. Period. Her voice is clear, strong and versatile. Her debut Soulsinger got undercover notoriety for its accomplished production and overall greatness. Her latest album focuses more on traditional jazz arrangements. Put this on at a dinner party and you’ll be writing down the name for half the guests. - Verve Remixed - Verve Remixed
- Sandra St. Victor - Gemini - Both Sides
Although she was brilliant as the lead vocalist for The Family Stand, Sandra St. Victor, gets the least amount of ink. Her defiant debut Mack Diva Saves The World barely made a blip and this sophomore CD of funk, soul and gospel goodness was so secretly released, even fans missed it. Oooh… but it’s a goody. - Bebel Gilberto - Tanto Tempo
I cannot describe Bebel Gilberto’s music and do the Bossa Nova Princess justice. Cosmopolitans on the deck, anyone? - SK Radicals - When Will We Belong?
This CD is rooted in traditional jazz jam sessions, but manipulates this genre with vocals, contemporary beats and electronic accents (there’s even a tribal house cut). - Koop - Waltz For Koop
Okay, is that better?

J, I’ve got 3 of your 10 and have heard a lot of Nuspirit Helsinki…what’s up with the rest of them?
oooh, you’re singing my song(s).
let’s sip-n-chat.
you bring the moon, i’ll bring the stars.
Aaron, whenever our ships are passing in the night.
Between you and Jason, I fear I may just have to walk to Tower Records.
