2:00 And Nowhere To Drink

After a traditional, Friday night nap, Loverboy and I coordinated party schedules. Unfortunately, I needed to clean up a bit and we didn’t get rolling until midnight. Remember when midnight was prime time for getting your party started? No longer if you live in Atlanta. And I am having a difficult time adjusting to Atlanta’s earlier, bar closings.
After locating the newest, hip lounge and securing parking (no easy feat), we were met at the door with a $15 cover. Realizing it was nearly 1:00, we chose not to spend $30 for an hour.
However, the lower-priced alternatives were blocked by lines of would-be patrons waiting to get their party on. If there’s anything I hate more than a high cover, it’s waiting in line (especially when it’s cold and rainy). We ended up all dressed up with nowhere to go at 1:00.
I can barely express how furious I still am about living in a city who wants to project a progressive “big city” personality but keeps moving backwards when it comes to adults making their own choices. I swear, if it wasn’t for the weather (and its questionable status as a “black, gay mecca”), I’d seriously think of moving. But, I’m a city boy and the other big-city choices have drawbacks I’m unwilling to tolerate for now.
Hopefully, the city’s bars can band together and discover a way to reverse this situation. Because, I really don’t see me arriving at a bar at 10:30 or getting my boogie on at The Underground.
And what’s worse about the early bar closings is that these people end up taking their “protests” to the streets and the neighborhoods.
Umm…wasn’t the early bar closings s’posed to prevent that?
