Visiting NYC

My hit & run tour

by j. brotherlove

brotherlove in NYCIf you typically access my site through the RSS feed, you probably haven’t seen this NYC Hit & Run banner in the side column. For those with disabled images, Loverboy and I will be in New York July 20-23 for a brief getaway. You can blame Donald for speaking this trip into the Universe.

Besides re-connecting with the usual suspects like Donald, Lynne and Christopher-David (wherever the hell he is), I’d like to "clientele" with some long time blog peers who I’ve never met (Bernie, Rod, Ronn, Atila); along with any other lurkers or folks I’ve forgotten who live there.

I haven’t been to the Apple since the early 90s so, I have a little catching up to do (and only three days to do it in). There’ll be some sightseeing, of course. But, if you’ve read my posts over the years, you know I’m fueled by food, music, art and live performances (more or less in that order). A party or two wouldn’t hurt like that Fabulous & Sprung party Nathan sponsors.

At the very least I need some suggestions to get some of that unique NYC funk y’all like to brag about so much. But, no need to mention The Color Purple. I’m sure Lachanze and crew do and admirable job but, I’d rather see something more contemporary. Although, if you can secure good seats at a nice discount, I may reconsider.

Post in the comments or send suggestions and caveats to j [at] thebrotherlove [dot] com.

Hey j., it’ll be great to finally meet you in person. If possible, it would be even greater to have a brunch/dinner get-together with the NYC Blogfam.

That’s a great idea, ronn. I’m not embarassed to admit I have no pull in your city. Can you help a bruh out?

so. ronn - when are we organizing that get together. you know like how we always do for ej when he comes to town.

on another note, j. i have a lengthy email coming your way with suggestions, etc.

Just not that Brazilian place with all the meat. Oy! I double over in pain just remembering.

I agree about avoiding churrascarias, Bernie. It’s too damn hot to be weighted down by all that beef and pork. Besides, some of you who don’t eat red meat (although, those restaurants tend to have slamming salad bars).

I forgot to mention, my baby brother is getting married this Saturday, so that rules out a get-together that day, and probably the early part of Sunday for me.

If you’re into Soul, I’d suggest Amy Ruth’s. Friday nite would be good for me, as well as Sunday brunch (altho that would probably entail a bit of a wait depending on the time and size of our party).
