Top 10 Searches Revealed
Clarification given where neededby j. brotherlove
Over the weekend, I customized my mint installation and added some new pepper to the mix. Since I’ve been playing around in there, I thought I’d post last week’s top 10 searches leading folks to pages within thebrotherlove.com.
1. brother love
It’s queried a variety of ways: brother love, TheBrotherLove, BROTHERLOVE… However, brotherlove or thebrotherlove are the only official ways around these parts. Seeing it spelled as two, separate words makes me cringe. Really. Please change your link titles if you are committing this crime. I don’t know how Google got it twisted; I’ll have to get that rectified.
My site fluctuates with the rock group of the same name for the number one spot in the search results. I guess the rank depends on my traffic at the time and whether or not the group is touring. It’s a bit irritating to us both, I’m sure. I’ve never bothered to listen to their music. I doubt they’ve ever bother to read my blog.
2. noah’s arc soundtrack
Noah’s Arc has a great music thanks to the eclectic musical tastes of creator Patrick Ian Polk. However, the show doesn’t have an official soundtrack that I’m aware of. Some of my favorite music featured on the show has been from Teedra Moses’ Complex Simplicity, Skye’s Mind How You Go and Anthony David’s The Red Clay Chronicles. You can’t go wrong with any of those in your jukebox. Noah’s Arc’s theme, of course, comes from Adriana Evans Nomadic CD (which I reviewed in 2004).
3. clik magazine
I’ve written about Clik Magazine quite a bit this year, mostly negative. Many speculate I hold a deep-seated hatred for the magazine but that’s untrue. I have seen many black, gay publications come and go in my day but publisher Dwight Powell has managed to keep Clik in circulation since 1998; that’s an accomplishment!
I am proud we have a national black, gay publication (now, more than one). I just get frustrated when things aren’t done the right way and since I have no conflict of interest (I don’t write for the magazine or use them as a sponsor), I have no problem commenting about it in public.
As minorities, we have a habit of turning a blind eye when one of our own steps out of line. I don’t think that’s healthy; it doesn’t help us to grow. Besides, if we can criticize the President of the United States, certainly we pull the shirt tail of our brother or sister when they’re not acting right. That said, Clik’s official site is here.
4. pisces horoscope
I’m a Pisces and periodically, I post my horoscope. There’s really not much more to it than that. I don’t “follow” any of them as a religion. But I do believe they do offer cosmic clues about my direction.
5. shadowboxer movie nudity
Thanks to its recent DVD release, searches for Lee Daniel’s panned film Shadowboxer are up. In my review of the film , I point out its “various shortcomings” yet classify it as “fascinating to watch.” I still stand by that. Of course, searchers only want to know about the naked stuff.
6. J.L. King
I’ve only written about J. L. King once, when I reviewed his instantly-defunct Just Living magazine. Apparently, nobody else is writing about him (including himself) so a search on his name places me high on the results page.
7. Jimi Izrael
Jimi Izrael is “a professional opinion writer with at least one opinion about everthing” (his words, not mine). Jimi and I had a difference of opinion (not quite a beef) on blackness and gayness and it escalated with me calling him out about it. For the record, we haven’t communicated since.
8. george benson
People like George Benson. I give the people what the want. Sometimes.
9. black or gay atlanta
I’m not sure why people using this query aren’t typing “black AND gay atlanta”. Because, contrary to what you may have heard, black Atlanta and gay Atlanta are not the same thing! However, much of what I write is covered by those two umbrellas; so it’s no wonder it brings people here.
10. Pulse Gay 2006
My recent review of GMAD’s Pulse magazine propelled this search request up the list. Result found here.
Whoops! I was one of those link title offenders. *adjusts blogroll*
Thank you, Chris!
I was wondering if you knew the artist that wrote/performed/composed the trailer music for Noah’s Arc?
Logo would always play it during the ‘05/(maybe ‘06) previews of what would be on the next episode.
It was a little tango-ish…sort of latin w/a groovy little beat to it.
Just wondering. Can’t find anything anywhere and you seem to be quite the NA guru ;0)
Thx!
We haven’t communicated since? Really? Sorry about that, Brother J. I just got busy, bro. Nothing personal.
I still wanna try and get you on The Shop. Stay up, and Holla! at y’boy
peace
