Pre-Post

It’s not a post until somebody else says so

by j. brotherlove

I have a substantive post and a housekeeping announcement “coming soon” but before I get to that, some random thoughts:

I am very proud of my blogfam for turning out the Blogging While Black panel at SXSW, this year. Like many, I have been immersed in the reactions and feedback from the conference and rest assured, the event is inked on my calendar for 2006.

I completely understand Cecily’s reaction to Cinnamon’s comments about the BWB panel. Jason presents a level-headed explanation in the comments. But, for me, the situation just illustrates how Life has conditioned me to stay en garde.

Trouble is, it’s hard to fight this fight when the opponents are in our own camp. When Brian Nichols’ brother stated on Larry King Live “You wouldn’t even know he was black when he answered the phone, that’s how professional he sounded,” I had flashbacks of Vanity’s “gorilla comment” on Arsenio. Dumb statements caught on tape, y’all.

Speaking of Nichols (the quadruple murder suspect, not his brother), has anyone noticed the conflict some are having because ol’ boy is a hottie? It may just be an Atlanta thing but there’s a selection of women (and some men, of course) who are catching feelings for the condemned man who looks like he lays great pipe. I’m just saying.

On a much lighter note… America’s Next Top Model was the bomb last night! I’m digging how Eva is working her 15 minutes with her My Life As A CoverGirl commercials. Also, I love how Brandy and Tiffany (the two girls from the “hood”) comforted Michelle when they discovered she was gay - not that we were surprised by that “revelation”. The highlight, of course, was when Rebecca fell out during judging. WTF?! Now that’s reality television! Good times, I tell you.

Lastly, although I don’t drink colas, I used to be a Pepsi supporter. This feeling stems from my strong dislike for Coca-Cola as a company (ironic that I chose to move to the city where they are headquartered). However, I’m convinced Pepsi marketers are idiots. From badly-researched endorsement decisions (Madonna, Ludacris) to clumsy product launches (Pepsi Edge?), what are they smoking? All of this is a long way of saying, stay away from Aquafina’s Flavor Splash. Blecch!

P.S. I’d love for one of those “published” writers who like to step on the dreams of the “pre-published” to step to me face-to-face. I’d do a double Michelle.

Re: Nichols as a hottie.

Lawd, you Atlanta chillen! He was originally on trial for rape, remember.

Ummm…having just finished a wild berry Flavor Splash, I just had to say…

…it’s actually kinda good.

“Pre-Post” heh, heh. I do *so* love you.

@ Bernie - I’m sure it’s not an Atlanta thing. Just an example I noticed. Even Oprah admitted “there are some fine men in prison”.

@ Elle - When I first started drinking it, the taste was okay. As I continued, it just became too sweet. I don’t mind a little flavor in my water, but I still want it to taste like water.

@ Michelle - *wink*

One of the women in my department has a picture of Brian Nichols she cut out from the newspaper with “Free Brian Nichols!” scrawled across it in her handwriting. She thinks he’s sexy.

I dunno. That whole shooting someone in the mouth thing would sorta curb my libido but hey…whatever works, right?

This whole thing with people drooling over Nichols reminds me of all those crazy Manson broads. Sure he is a nice looking guy, but he’s got issues that no woman can try to change (as many loveee to). As far as his brother’s comment, that type of ignorance is sad but entirely too common. Really goes to show what kind of ideas the subconscious holds I guess.

Whatever happened to “boundaries”? Pssst…the libido has replaced the brain - pass it on…..

I’d make sure he got his 90-day chip from several 12-step groups before I’d think about a “future” with this particular fella (fellon?), whom my friend just yesterday said of: “You know, it just goes to show you, there’s a little good in everyone. Even the bad ones have some good in them.” That was ‘cause he didn’t kill the blonde before she turned him in.

I guess it’s all relative.

You know, I read a comment on someone’s blog about how “fine” he was. Its like people just FORGET what he did just cause he looks good!! ARRGGHHH… if he was ugly as hell, they would be cursing his name to hell. Someone even said something about how Ms. Smith probably “gave his fine ass” some and thats why she even cooked up some breakfast.
