LIFEbeat Concert Offensive
Homophobic acts contradict missionby j. brotherlove
All of the more politically active bloggers have weighed in on the inclusion of homophobic dancehall acts performing at LIFEbeat’s upcoming concert for HIV/AIDS Awareness. Suffice it to say I condemn Beenie Man, T.O.K. and all other music acts spewing hatred and violence, especially under the banner of HIV/AIDS Awareness. If gay activists can get Beenie Man’s concerts canceled in Britain, certainly we can make our outrage known to organizers here in the States.
It’s obvious LIFEbeat (a national AIDS charity) missed the common sense memo when they agreed to this sort of lineup. But I’m particularly annoyed (although, not surprised) by the involvement of BET, VIBE and Emil Wilbekin who really should be doing a better job of representing and protecting the African American community.
Keep an eye on Keith and Bernie (amongst others) for updates.
