Dropping It Like It’s Hot

So little time; so many hats

by j. brotherlove

Geek. Still using popular PHP includes with URLs (e.g., “open(’http://evilhacker.com’);”)? It’s time to stop before disaster strikes. Dreamhost has gone as far as turning off the allow_url_fopen option for PHP as of March 29, 2005. But don’t fret. Uniteheroes reminds us that PHP provides excellent support for curl library and its associated functions without risking death.

Designer. I’m working on a new website that should be a welcome addition to black, gay online community (and certainly, a needed diversion from Adam4Adam and Men4Now). Launch will be in April. Sorry, no URL at the moment.

Howler. I’ve gone back and forth over Vivica A. Fox’s “contributions” but she refuses to let me ignore her. Does anybody have her ass-tastic, stage performance from last year’s VMAs? I remember Jason weighing in but, Ms. Fox defends, “People were like, ‘Oh, I didn’t even know you had that in you.’ It was fun. I mean, I honestly didn’t think everybody would respond that way. If I didn’t look OK in my daisy dukes and dropping it like it’s hot, I could understand, but I got like “Well she’s too old. She’s too this,” OK, well that’s your opinion.” Gotta love it! Let’s just hope she doesn’t make any more visits to the plastic surgeon for fear she’ll wind up looking like Lil Kim.

Lover. When you’ve been in a relationship for a considerable amount of time, you need to check-in with each other and define focus, periodically. I’ll be honest and admit that I don’t especially enjoy the part of relationships where I examine myself and my behavior. It’s scary. Despite my anxiety around these realignment, I always feel better afterwards.

Patron. Attended Horizon Theatre’s annual fundraiser and silent auction which went smoothly. This year’s skits about local, Atlanta celebrities Ingrid Saunders Jones (Coca-Cola’s senior vice president of corporate external affairs), Classic DJ Si-Man Bayebaay, and UGA football coach Vince Dooley and his wife, Barbara, were more entertaining than last year. Although I didn’t feel like “dressing up”, it was worth it for the good food and drink; both of which I over-indulged. I didn’t win any bid items this time but I did help a great arts organization stay operational in these times when supporting the arts is the last thing on people’s minds.

Scenester. Okay, that may be a stretch. But, in an uncharacteristic move, Loverboy and I joined Prime, Christopher David and Sdot at Club 836’s Set It Out Saturdays. There was a good mix of young and old folks, dancing and lounging, complete with a (hit and miss) drag show. Proof we are all getting older: We talked about dancing but didn’t actually get on the floor. And again, I drank too much.

Student. I’m maintaining a solid “A” but the real test is tonight - Georgia’s mandatory Regent’s Test. As a rule, I excel on standardized tests. However, I am fully aware of the consequence of over-confidence. I’ll just be happy when it’s over.

you kick ass on tests. fretting about it makes it that much better.

Sometimes, just showing up is sufficient. And I’m referring to all the aforementioned categories…..

I’m curious as to what this new website is that will add to the Black gay online community? Do keep us posted.

The Regents is a walk in the park. You’ll ace it.

This website you have in the works has me intrigued though.
