Dishburner

This could happen to you

Dishburner

When you live in a large home, all kinds of things can (an do) go wrong. I returned to the DIC yesterday to a houseful of light smoke. Here’s an excerpt from Prime’s email explaining the incident (yes, we use email to communicate even though we live in the same house):

When I left my office, the family room was full of smoke so I rushed into the kitchen to find nothing on the stove. Then I noticed the smoke billowing up from the beside the sink and saw the flames coming out of the bottom of the dishwasher.

I ran out to the garage to turn off the breaker, but it had already tripped, so back inside, I panic and can’t remember where the fire extinguisher is… no phone nearby to call 911, and hitting fire on the alarm panel would be useless since it can’t dial out.

Eventually, Prime found the extinguisher and now, everything is back to (almost) normal. Of course, all of the high-demand dishes were inside when the fire broke including, my favorite knife. Good thing somebody was home when it happened. I’ve left the house with dishwasher running in the past. Haven’t you?

You’ve made a believer out of me. I’m never leaving the house with the dishwasher running again. Damn.

I don’t know which is more tragic, that you had a fire or that you all send emails when you live in the same house!

I’m like Michelle, I’m a believer now. I have a habit of starting the dishwasher before I leave the house, or just before I go to bed. I won’t be doing that anymore.

LOL @ Bernie’s comment.

BTW, I’ve seen you, EJ and Prime mention the DIC before. What does DIC stand for?

DIC = Dawn Ivory Cascade, the name of our house. Long story.

Email may sound weird to those who live in close quarters (hell, it may sound weird to everyone). But it works great for us. We are four people living separate lives under one big roof (and I’m often gone for days at a time).

Email’s the best way to make sure we all have the same info without trying to catch each other individually and telling the story over and over.

Wow…

Not only will I not leave with the dishwasher running, I won’t go to bed with it going either. I’m famous for that, and I sleep like a rock.
