Brotherlove Goes Bi
Best of both worldsby j. brotherlove
First things first… It really shouldn’t shock you to know I’m a bisexual man who chooses not to have sex with women. A conversation for another time maybe because that’s not what this post is about. By “bi”, I mean “bi-platform”.
That’s right, the DIC is now Mac-enabled!
And being geeks, we are pretty excited about having something new in the house that beeps and whirs. The expensive ass Mac Pro or cute Mac mini would’ve been a slam dunk. However, we got an unbeatable deal on a G4; more than enough power for our needs.
Unlike Karsh, I have no desire to switch. But I do welcome the ability to debug my websites on Mac browers and become more comfortable on that platform overall. Chances are, any agency I work for will use more Macs than PCs.
Now, I haven’t touched a Mac since the ’80s so I’ll be reading over the Mac 101 info and most likey bugging any of my Mac-savvy friends at random. First on the agenda, a multi-button mouse (that uni-button mouse is a joke).
Lawd geezus! Ain’t that just like a PCer. Tip-toeing over to the other side. A G4? Any Mac is better than a PC, but a G4 is so two-three years ago.
And they cost more because they work better and last longer. It’s called an investment.
You’re on the right track though…
I second Bernie’s contentions: it’s a long-term investment. Maybe by the time MWSF07 rolls around, you’ll get an up-to-date, full-service machine. Possibly a revamped, faster MacBook Pro or such.
Welcome to the Good Side.
Before this turns into another Mac vs. PC debate (*yawn*), please know I’m aware of the reasons Mac users love Macs and I think that’s great… for them.
The “longtime investment” argument doesn’t fly with me. Macs cost more because they can. I only buy new PCs (laptops, actually) to upgrade; something Mac lovers like as well.
In the past 8 years, I haven’t had a PC to give me any of the problems poor Karsh has had of late.
In fact, I’m hearing of more Mac owners having issues with their machines. Most interesting to me is how these problems are downplayed by the Mac fans.
Macs have their own share of issues. And for all of the things I do, a PC is the right choice for me. Neither platform is perfect. Either your system works for you or it doesn’t.
LOL @ the beginning of your comment, J.
At the end of the day, the only folks who care about the “significant difference” aren’t really casual computer users. Folks like me could care less. I’m just happy I have a computer at all.
What disturbs me is what I recently heard about the number of black students that do not have access to computers or know how to use one. Kinda makes the “Mac vs. PC” thing look silly.
I still need a new computer processing box thingie. At this point, I don’t give a damn if it has an apple a pear or Carmen Miranda on the case.
