Big Post Yadda Yadda
My Big Post of Life memeby j. brotherlove
The Big Post of Life List was crunked by Jason; remixed by Trent; and adopted by a bunch of other blogfolk (even Ronn); but you knew that already. Now interpolated by thebrotherlove:
Top five things wrong in my field of vision right now
Bullshittin’ Bush
Uneasiness, where there should be comfort
Lizz Wright not receiving a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist nor Best Jazz Vocal Performance
All of Atlanta’s bars closing earlier because of incidents in one neighborhood
On-going prejudices in the music industry as illustrated by the pristine treatment of Clay Aikens and the half-ass management of Ruben Studdard’s career. Ruben won the American Idol contest but Clay is always with him. If Clay would’ve won, we probably wouldn’t even know Ruben’s name by now.

Ruben Studdard Soulful

If you like Freshetta, might I suggest DiGiorno’s Chicago deep dish? (“Always about food, ain’t it, nOva?”) I swear that thing is like a damn casserole. Had me eatin’ for days….
I really don’t know what to make of the Rueben and Clay thing, but I don’t want to jump out there just yet and say it’s race. I think the reason people seem to embrace Clay so much is that he (in their minds) has evolved, but Rueben had it in the bag from the jump (or since Frenchie left). Whatever the case, when it comes to pop appeal and soul, pop ALWAYS wins and you should know that. The masses don’t understand soul.
jamie principle?! wow , you just took me waaaaaaay back.
hey, wait…don’t you wanna be like ME? *lol*
I think mostly is that Clay has been in the public eye from the day after American Idol ended. He’s done every public appearance, got his album out first, and is part of the growing “christian and proud and prominent” white youth culture that’s out there right now.
Ruben’s just another soul singer. Clay’s a goofy white boy with a big voice that’s not ashamed to say he likes God.
I can’t stand the guy but I’m a fan of counter culture…but in pop, one might argue that we’ve commercialized counter culture that to be the godly leave it to beaver style guy is to be counter-pop.
And I’ve been watching, teens and their young parents are eating that shit up.
i’m surprised at your top five songs list. you can miss me with that britney joint but isn’t milkshake just the shizzle my nizzle??
my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard…
i was just having a convo with a co-worker about ruben a couple hours ago. while i’m not completely convinced that this is a race thing (and everything is a race thing for me) i’m having a hard time understanding why ruben is forced to share the spotlight with clay. had i not pre-ordered his CD i wouldn’t have known it was released yesterday. besides ruben needing a new publicist/manager/handler i’m not sure what to make of the ruben v.s. clay thing and i’ll refrain from trying to figure it out in your comments.
Let me clarify…
I clearly understand why there are more people who (may) like Clay than Ruben. My irritation comes from the record company and American Idol machine perpetuating the situation.
Everything from the music to the packaging on Ruben’s project is sub-par (even for an R&B record). I have an issue with that. In addition, as the runner-up, Clay’s record should’ve been held back and focus should have been put on Ruben.
So I guess my ultimate question is what is the point in winning Amercian Idol when you are treated the same (or less than) the runner-up?
It could be worse (was there even a press release for his joint?).
i don’t get this ruben vs. clay i really hate that ruben has to always share ish with clay or if they announce ruben the there is clay, however i did buy ruben’s cd and it’s wonderful he did a fantastic job i sure wish i could have bought 50 million more copies.
looks like these questions are being post everywhere, actually i’m gonna do them as a post for tomorrow in my journal *lol*
